How do I know if I'm depressed?
The number one reason why most people seek counseling is because of depression. However, many people are unsure whether what they are feeling is simply "the blues" or something more serious. The following is a short depression questionnaire to give you a sense of whether or not you should seek counseling for your depression. After answering each question as honestly as you can, scroll down to the bottom of the page for scoring.

1. I rarely feel down. Yes No
2. I don't enjoy the things I used to as much. Yes No
3. I've been eating too much/too little as a result of my emotional state. Yes No
4. I don't sleep enough/sleep too much. Yes No
5. The future is promising. Yes No
6. I would be happy if I just didn't wake up tommorrow. Yes No
7. I cry alot recently. Yes No
8. I feel guilty much of the time. Yes No
9. I feel loved and connected to friends/family. Yes No
10. I know that whatever comes my way, I'll be able to handle it. Yes No
11. I've smiled or laughed at least once today. Yes No
12. I often feel like I'm being punished. Yes No
13. I believe I'm a bad person. Yes No
14. I rarely get irritable. Yes No
15. I usually look for the silver lining lining when I'm having a bad day. Yes No

Give yourself one point for every yes answer to the following questions:
2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 13, 16, 18, 19, 20

Give yourself one point for every no answer to the following questions:
1, 4, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 17

1-5….may indicate normal variations in mood.
6-15…indicates liklehood of substantial depression.
16-21…severely depressed.

Any yes answers to questions 6 or 21 indicate serious depression.
Yes to question 22 indicates a need for immediate assistance.
Go to the emergency room or nearest mental health facility right away!
